The degree programme at a glance

The UNESCO World Heritage Centre of Bamberg is the ideal spot for a degree in the field of prehistoric archaeology. Our town itself is a pleasant place to be, and the university, with its state-of-the-art technology, offers ideal conditions for study and research.

The programme curriculum covers the Neolithic period through to the Roman Empire. Lectures, seminars, practical training courses, field trips and excursions teach you about the most important aspects of the epochs in question. Together with the other sub-disciplines of archaeology, Bamberg constitutes a major centre of archaeological research in Germany. It collaborates with many other universities (e.g. the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Giessen) and institutes (e.g. the Palaeogenetic laboratories in Mainz).

Modern measurement devices, a fluxgate gradiometer with two sensors, and a 3D scanner for archaeological finds are regularly used in the research of the Professorship of Prehistoric Archaeology.
