Options to stay at the University of Bamberg

There are essentially two options for refugee scholars to stay at the University of Bamberg:

1. Scholars without a host

  • Free access to the university's research infrastructure (library, IT systems, etc.)
  • Support with organisational questions (residence status, accommodation, insurance, etc.) through the Welcome Center.
  • This option does not include any financial support (however, it may be possible to obtain funding via the regular refugee status).

2. Scholars with a host

  • Free access to the university's research infrastructure (library, computer centre, etc.)
  • Support with organisational issues (residence status, accommodation, insurance, etc.) through the Welcome Center.
  • Scholars may apply for external scholarships or funding for a duration of up to 2 years (see below). The University of Bamberg will gladly help you with the application.

For the second option (scholars with a host), the academic community has set up or strengthened various programmes to support scholars in need.

The ongoing Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the situation of researchers there is something that the DFG continues view with great concern.
