How and where do I find the Learning Lab Primary Education and the General Studies Learning Lab?

Many courses in primary school education, didactics of written language acquisition and didactics of general studies take place in the rooms in MG2/02. To get there, cross the small campus from the bus stop and go to the second floor of the MG2 building.

A workshop at the university?

The Primary School Education and Didactics of Written Language Acquisition Learning and Learning Lab plays a central role in the current theory-practice discourse in research and teaching. It aims to combine innovative teaching with innovative research and to emphasise the practical relevance of the knowledge taught to students at university.

The learning and research workshop is characterised by its openness, which provides a space for testing various teaching and learning formats and opportunities for independent learning and research.

Conceptual approach

The Primary Education unit’s activities in Studies – Research – Knowledge Transfer are also represented in the learning and research workshop.

Teaching and learning. University learning workshops are training centres at a university or other institution of higher education (Schude 2016) and contribute to “changing the traditional role perception of learners and teachers” (Wedekind 2006: 9). The objective is therefore to enable students to change roles in the sense of action-orientated learning in different university teaching/learning settings and to rethink their own experiences of teaching settings. Wedekind (2013) describes the “learning workshop as a bridge to the schools, as a cooperation interface with practical application”.

Research. The learning and research workshop’s activities aim to generate students' enthusiasm for research. The learning and research workshop provides a space for research activity itself, for teaching methodology and for reflecting on methodological approaches and research findings. The room is equipped with cameras and is suitable for recording both individual and group activities.

Knowledge transfer. The explicit aim of the Primary Education unit is to create an enduring foundation from content taught at university and to make it available for later work in schools or in research. For this to succeed, it is necessary for all three phases of teacher training to be networked and for all involved to be on equal footing and exchange knowledge and experience.
