The Chair of Information Systems, esp. AI Engineering in Enterprises is part of the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science at the University of Bamberg.
Prof. Dr. Milad Mirbabaie has already been conducting intensive research in various domains since 2014. Mainly, he has dedicated himself to the research field of AI-based systems in organizations in the past years. He has been investigating how and whether information systems (esp. AI-based systems) are currently used by humans. A special focus of his research is on the topics of Human-AI-Collaboration, i.e., the way humans and machines interact with each other, or Ethics & AI, i.e., the question of how ethics and artificial intelligence can be reconciled.
Central research questions here are:
- What are the implications of new technologies (e.g., AI-based systems) for individuals, society, and organizations?
- What are the interactions between existing and new socio-technical systems and how can transformation processes be meaningfully designed?
In addition, his current research addresses the impact of digital technologies on the future of work and new business models. In this context, he is investigating the influence of communication and collaboration systems on people's behavior at work and how this behavior can be changed through the design of information systems (digital assistants/digital nudging). Due to digitalization and the resulting transformation of individuals, areas such as future of work are also becoming increasingly relevant. In his current research, Prof. Mirbabaie is particularly concerned with topics related to the concept of digital nomadism, a hyper-flexible work model, or the area of the digital workplace. Here, Prof. Dr. Mirbabaie works closely with other universities, but especially with companies and NGOs.
Social media and also other technologies (such as virtual reality/augmented reality or wearables), play an important role or are gaining a lot of importance in society, the economy, politics, the media landscape and in general in the formation of public opinion. This is happening at the level of individuals as well as organizations and society. In the field of social media analytics, Prof. Dr. Mirbabaie is particularly concerned with crisis management. For example, he investigates the question of how information systems (especially social media) can currently be used by people to conduct sensemaking and close existing knowledge gaps. In particular, he has been interested in the collective behavior of people in emergencies.
Supported by third-party funded projects (DFG, BMBF), he continuously deals with different aspects of new technologies. In this dynamic environment, he has been able to establish himself very successfully as an active, internationally recognized researcher.
