Digital Agriculture and the Data Economy - just another example of Platformization

Agriculture faces potential data-driven transformations, with increased data availability through technologies like the agricultural Internet of Things, digital farm management systems, and cloud computing. Unlike other sectors, dominant platform companies have not yet emerged, leading to a diverse range of actors providing farmers with data solutions. This presents an intriguing subject for platform studies, examining the uses and governance of data in agriculture. My dissertation project, "Digital Agriculture and the Data Economy - Just Another Example of Platformization?" (Working Title) explores whether the observed patterns are specific to agriculture or applicable to platform studies in other areas. It investigates whether divergences result from timing or sector-specific factors and power relations. The project aims to enhance understanding of data and platform roles across different socioeconomic sectors.
